The Christmas tree was taken down today. All the decorations packed away for another year. Pretty glass baubles returned to their cardboard boxes and safely stored. Christmas lights carefully unstrung and taken down.
Symbolic really that as another year draws to a close I was packing up remnants of Christmas.
Whatever 2017 held for you – the good and the bad, the highs and the lows, it is almost over. We can treasure the memories but step forward into a new season. It is time to put 2017 behind us and press on to what God holds for us and calls us to in 2018.
We can begin our New Year with the confidence that whatever 2018 holds, God is already there.
“Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 2:12-14)
