For me and for probably most of us it was yet another day made dreary by the rain. Not for my little chap though – he took so much joy in it. Getting to hold the umbrella himself. Normally the rain bothers him, but today it provided him with an opportunity for fun, a spark of joy – a walk to school with an umbrella.
I read somewhere that the word glimmer has been repurposed to be the opposite of trigger. Glimmers are the micro moments in your day that make you feel joy, happiness, peace or gratitude.
We need to find the glimmer – the spark, the joy in the our days, in the mundane. The glimmer In the rhythms of everyday life. It’s the looking up from the kitchen sink and seeing the full moon above. It’s the taking a few minutes to stop on the drive home from work to see the view and not take it for granted.
It’s appreciating the mug that the coffee is in, the warmth of the spring morning sun. It’s walking a little longer at lunchtime to explore new little corner cafes or noticing the lone flower that has appeared beside the driveway.
It is also knowing that God is in these little moment , these little glimmers as much as He is in the big events and encounters that we have with Him. They’re an invitation to turn our affection towards Him.
