Recipe for Life

It was at the front of my late Grandmother’s recipe book. Written by her on a piece of paper and stuck on the first page.

“Every morning
Lean thine arm awhile
Upon the windowsill of heaven
And gaze upon thy God.
Then with the vision in thy heart
Turn strong to meet the day.”

Seems fitting that this was in her everyday recipe book. Not tucked into a special journal or left where it could be forgottten. But written somewhere it would be seen as part of her everyday life.

Did she read it perhaps before turning to her famous malt biscuits? Was her heart set on Jesus as she baked her scones? For such a woman of faith, I can only imagine.

When we turn our hearts towards Jesus, our fears and worries abate; our perspective changes. We can live our day in the revelation of God’s love for us. And we can carry His presence into the tasks set before us.

Let the dawning day bring me revelation of your tender, unfailing love. Give me light for my path and teach me, for I trust in you.

Psalm 143:8

God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day.

Psalm 46:5
