The weary world rejoices…

The hymn “O Holy Night” is one of my all time favourites for Christmas. Pretty sure, when we went to the same church, my sister knew she had to include it in every Christmas worship so as not to disappoint.

Every time I hear it, it’s the same lines that always resonate for me. That pull in my spirit.

A thrill of hope
The weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn

It reminds me, whether I’m in a Church singing this Hymn or hearing it through the speakers in a supermarket, that this is what we hold on for, that we celebrate at Christmas.

Hope.

Hope for the weary, for the hurting, for those who keep on keeping on.

It is one of the beautiful gifts that God gave us at that first Christmas. Jesus, born into a weary world to bring hope much unlike any hope that we could experience in anything or anyone else. It is a hope not anchored in outcomes or the temporal. It is not placed in people or assets but placed in Jesus.

It is a hope, that despite our circumstances, gives us something to rejoice about. It overrides our weariness, dispels our fears. We rejoice because our hope is complete and sure when it is in God.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

Romans 15:13

Merry Christmas!
