I dreamed a dream…

I had a dream that on waking felt so real as if a memory. In my dream, I was watching Oscar in class. He was sitting at a table reading a text on a piece of paper. His finger marking each word that he read. And as he read he said each word. The Speech Language Therapist and I looked at each other in amazement. He can read, he can speak.

Oh the joy. The excitement…

Felt within the dream…

But I awoke and life continued on its norm.

I captured the dream in my journal for the hope it had given me. And then the dream began to fade.

Today we went to our fortnightly speech therapy session. And as we drove there, wondering whether it would be a productive session or one that nothing is achieved, I questioned if we should just take a break since we weren’t seeing much progress.

On entering the room, there on the table was a page of words with the picture below. His SLT wanted him to say each word…

…and he did. He said more words than he has ever said in a session! Ever said full stop!

And then I remembered the dream. I sat there watching and hearing Oscar practicing words and sounds.

It was breathtaking – as a dream became life. A witness to God moving in his life. A miracle in motion.

A reassurance and reminder of God’s presence during this journey.

Later his speech therapist sent me an email that included these words –

I’m still so excited about Oscar’s talking today! What a star your boy is – I hope he’s feeling really proud of himself right now! That was so special to watch Oscar reading through those words’”

Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.
