And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
John 1:14
And we beheld His glory…
My heart has been snagged on this verse for quite some time now. Meditating on what it is to behold His glory.
What is the glory John speaks of?
Is he referring to the transfiguration, the Resurrection? Both of which manifested the glory, the power of God in miraculous and incredible ways.
Or is it more than this? John’s gospel suggests that the glory of Jesus was not just visible in those extraordinary moments but also in His everyday actions and responses to people around Him. his everyday revealing the character and attributes of God.
The glory of Jesus, as described by John, isn’t confined to divine miracles or extraordinary events like the Transfiguration. His glory is equally found in the mundane, in His everyday responses to those He encountered. I. These we witness the fullness of God’s glory revealed in love.
The Disciples beheld His glory when Jesus stood at the bottom of that tree and saw Zacchaeus. For who he was, where he was and yet still did not walk by.
His glory was revealed in His tears with Martha and Mary over the death of Lazarus, He showed a glory that invites us into a God who is not distant, but who shares in our sorrow and pain, meets us right there, even while resurrection awaits.
Today we can see God’s glory in the miraculous but also in the mundane, in the ordinary. In acts of kindness, compassion, and humility. Just as Jesus revealed the glory of God in these everyday moments, we too can encounter His glory, His presence. When Jesus meets us in our day, we behold His glory and see Him manifest.
There are many moments of these across my life, collected in my heart and every time I think upon one of them, I immediately am taken straight into His presence. Seen, loved, and close to Him.
And I beheld His glory. His beautiful, awe inspiring glory.
