Today marks the first Sunday, the first day of Advent. A a season of expectation—a time when we remember Christ’s coming to the world and look to His coming again.
Yet as this season starts, and the excitement and anticipation towards Christmas builds, while the year closes in, it’s easy to feel tired.
Weary.
I am reminded of the verse in the carol O Holy Night – This beloved carol, beautifully captures the tension between this weariness and the hope Advent brings. “A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices,” the hymn declares, reminding us that even in our most burdened moments, there is reason to rejoice. The arrival of Christ is the light breaking into the darkness—a promise that the struggles of today will not have the final word.
Advent invites us to pause and embrace this hope. It calls us to trust in the coming of Emmanuel, “God with us,” who enters into our weariness, our current situation and redeems them with His presence. The season is not about ignoring our realities but invites to place them at the feet of the One who came to carry them for us.
In this season of waiting, may our weary hearts find rest in the promise of His coming and rejoice in the hope that He gives us.
