Hope in the Silence – {Advent}

For 400 years, there was silence. No word from heaven. No encouragement. No sign of what was to come. Generations were born, lived, and died, waiting. Waiting in the quiet, holding onto promises that seemed distant and unanswered. Forgotten even.

Then, the silence was shattered—not with a loud proclamation, but with the fragile cry of a newborn baby. A light broke into the darkness. The angelic chorus declared it: hope had arrived.

Advent is a season that speaks to the silences in our own lives—the unanswered prayers, the lingering questions, the moments when darkness feels endless. It reminds us that waiting is not wasted and silence is not absence. Even when we cannot see it, God is at work, preparing something extraordinary.

The birth of Jesus Christ—the Light of the World—was the fulfillment of centuries of waiting. It was a reminder that darkness does not last forever and that hope is not misplaced. Advent calls us to hold fast to this truth: just as Christ came into the world once, He will come again.

Let us remember that even in silence, there is hope. The Light of the World has come, and the promise remains. The darkness will end, and joy will be found.

This Advent, may we wait with expectant hearts, knowing that the silence is never the end of the story.

Miracles happen.

Jesus will come again.

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. (John 1:5)

  1. Hi Pip,

    Can I share this with a WhatsApp group from church – obviously I’ll attribute it to you. I love reading Blue Skies.
