Sometimes, life surprises us with little things that remind us of God’s goodness.
I have a chair in my bedroom, passed on from my parents years ago. It’s a little worn, but it’s the perfect size and color for my room. I love it – bringing it with me each time I’ve moved.
This week, my husband was reorganizing his office, and I suggested he could use a small armchair. Something comfortable for those moments when he’s on the phone or reading—a welcome alternative to sitting at his desk all day. On a whim, I opened Trade Me and searched “small armchair.” To my amazement, within seconds, I had found the exact same style of chair as my one, newly reupholstered. The auction was closing the very next day and the price – so good!
Fast forward 24 hours, and now that chair sits in his office! We now have a matching pair—something I’ve quietly wished for over the years. The funny thing is, I’ve casually looked for a matching chair before but never found one. And yet, when we needed it, there it was. Given the number of chairs for sale – a needle in a haystack.
This small moment made me reflect on how many quiet dreams and fleeting hopes we hold in our hearts. They may not seem significant, but they matter to God. He remembers them, even when we forget, and blesses us in His perfect timing. How often, though, do we miss these moments of grace, failing to recognize that God was at work all along?
Scripture reminds us that God cares deeply about the details of our lives, even the smallest ones:
“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” (James 1:17)
“Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” (Psalm 37:4)
This dear chair reminds me to pay attention to life’s little blessings and to give thanks for God’s kindness.
