With the passing of Pope Francis, the world says goodbye to a leader who walked with humility, compassion, and deep faith. But maybe his most lasting gift is a simple prayer he learned from his grandmother.
“Jesus, make my heart more like yours.”
Pope Francis often said that this prayer held everything we should desire—not success or power, but a heart that mirrors Christ’s. It’s a quiet surrender, a longing to love, forgive, and serve like Jesus did.
In many ways, this prayer echoes the words of John the Baptist:
“He must increase, but I must decrease.” — John 3:30
Pope Francis lived those words—putting others first, pointing always to Jesus, and letting love lead.
As we remember him, let’s carry that same prayer with us. Because becoming more like Christ—that is the essence of all we could ever want.
“It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me.”
Galations 2:20
