Given I park my car in the Sky City carpark when in city for work, I’m quite used to rushing past the base of the Sky Tower. Rarely glancing up.
Today though, with school holidays on, I noticed families and groups of children all looking up. Taking in the height of the sky tower.
That simple act made me think – how often do I forget to do the same—not just physically, but spiritually?
Life has a way of pulling our eyes down. We focus on the next step, the problems in front of us, the endless list of things to do. But God calls us to lift our gaze higher.
“I lift up my eyes to the hills—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth” (Psalm 121:1-2).
When we look up, we remember who is truly in control. We remember that our strength, our hope, and our direction come from the Lord. The stars above remind us of His power:
“Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one and calls forth each of them by name” (Isaiah 40:26).
Looking up is an act of trust. It’s choosing not to be consumed by the road beneath our feet but to set our eyes on the God who is above it all.
So today, take a moment to look up. Pause. Breathe.
Remember.
Look up.
