1. taste (good food or drink) and enjoy it to the full.

   enjoy or appreciate (something pleasant) to the full, especially by lingering over it.

Savour is such a delicious sounding word. Pregnant with promise as to the delectable treats that must be consumed to then justify using the word. Today, on a rare morning of time alone when work and chores were deliberately ignored, I popped down to my local French Café for a coffee and couldn’t help but order a pain au chocolat as well. And savour the pastry I did! It was warm and flaky, baked to perfection. Sitting in the sun with my coffee and pain au chocolat in hand, I savoured the taste. I enjoyed it to the full. But I went one step further. I not only savoured the taste of my brunch, I savoured the moment, the experience – the peace, the warmth of the sun on my back, the delight of the book I was reading, the perfect weather.

Fortunately, the dictionary agrees with me. Food / Drink / Taste is not the only thing that can be savoured. There are many things that we can enjoy or appreciate by lingering over them. My weekend was full of such moments. Enjoying the morning cuddles from my 3 year old, sitting in the sun watching my children play in the local playground, enjoying watching a movie with my husband, enjoying smelling the roses that my husband bought me. So many delicious moments that instagram can’t do justice to (although I did try with said pastry!)

In these moments, when we linger over them, when we take time to fully appreciate them, I know that we give God pleasure. He wants us to enjoy life, to enjoy living.

“The steps of the godly are directed by the Lord. He delights in every detail of their lives.” (Psalm 37:23)

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (John 10:10)

Take time to smell the roses, or take time to enjoy the coffee! Life is full of delicious moments to be savoured!
