Ponderances

Some people laugh through their noses…

Mary Poppins2

…Sounding something like this, dreadful
Some people laugh through their teeth goodness sake
Hissing and fizzing like snakes…

You have to love Mary Poppins and the delightful lyrics used in the songs. And who could forget that gorgeous word supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! I particularly love the song “I love to laugh” – fun, upbeat, definitely humorous. And while the main “lesson” in the song / scene is about being able to and enjoying laughing, the song made me think of a more subtle theme – everyone is different. As much as we all have different laughs, large belly laughs, quiet little giggles, snorts even, we are all created differently as well. With different giftings, talents and abilities.

The best way to laugh is to laugh naturally. To let the joy bubbling up manifest in your own unique way. And not to try to imitate or copy someone else’s (quite hard to do when you’re caught up in amusement!).  Actually I’ve never heard of anyone trying to change their laugh. Everyone laughs differently and seem to embrace it. We need to be the same in other aspects of our lives. To embrace being who God made us to be. To embrace our differences to others. I may not have conquered the art of baking a sponge cake as some have and when it comes to singing you’re best to put me far away from a microphone, but if you want a Tirimisu or need help in getting a container anywhere then I’m the one to talk to!

It is no mistake that you are living right now with your personalised set of skills and abilities. God has made you and has placed you here on purpose. You are involved in a divinely designed, eternally significant plan. You were chosen by God and are uniquely suited equipped and capable of carrying out His plans! You are the one. God loves you dearly. He wants the world to experience you, your uniqueness, your gifts, your talents, and your abilities. He determined that you were born and the day and time when earth most needed you. It was no mistake. You are God’s gift to the world! You are God’s light to the world.

Oprah Winfrey once said “I was once afraid of people saying “who does she think she is?” Now I have the courage to stand and say, “This is who I am.”

“Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire.” (St. Catherine of Siena)

Be you!
