Be Gallant

Your one life

“Here’s the thing, none of us get out of life alive. So be gallant, be great, be gracious and be grateful for the opportunities that you have.”

Inspiring words from an 18 year old cancer sufferer at his Senior Prize giving. Words written before his diagnosis. The speech itself has gone viral. The lesson in his words there for all of us.

We have just one life to live. The choice is ours as to whether we live it for ourselves or for the Kingdom of God. When we are gracious to those around us, to those in need, we are living for the Kingdom. So too when we cultivate an attitude of thanksgiving in our lives. When we are grateful for our lives and the blessings that we have, we live a more contented life – a happier life. Gratitude is a key to happiness, not the other way around. It is all about focus. Focusing on what we have versus on what we do not have.

When we seek the noble life – to serve Christ, to imitate Christ, to demonstrate Christ to world around us, we are living for the Kingdom.

Give me Father, a purpose deep,
In joy or sorrow Thy word to keep;
Faithful and true what e’er the strife,
Pleasing Thee in my daily life;
Only one life, ’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.
