Scratch Art

As a child I loved Scratch art. When we’d randomly fill a piece of paper with different colours and cover it with black wax crayon. Then we’d scratch drawings from the black revealing the colour beneath. It’s got a lot more sophisticated today – pre-coloured and ready to scratch!

In hard times, in challenging and unexpected times, there is treasure to be found, because God is there with us. He doesn’t leave us alone in the darkness. What colour is revealed, what that treasure is, is part of our own unique journey. It may be hope, peace, healing. Unexpected joy. It may be strength and courage. Definitely though we will find His presence – the greatest treasure.

On the day that held in it a weighty decision, Oscar came home from school with his own scratch art. And I found my own little piece of treasure – reassurance from God who is with me.

“I will give you the treasures of darkness, riches hidden in secret places, so that you may know that I am the Lord, the God of Israel, who summons you by name” (Isaiah 45:3 NIV).
