Seen

We’ve been a household fighting the winter bugs recently. From the oldest right down to the youngest. And as typical it seems to be worse for everyone at night.

The teenager woke me up, not so much to help, as wasn’t much I could do, but to not feel alone in his sickness. My seven year old appeared soon after for a reassuring hug. Seems everyone was needing some comfort even if that meant just having someone else up in those night hours.

In the same way, as we face challenges, battles in our lives, the need to be seen is there for us too. And that’s what God does. He sees us wherever we are, whatever circumstances we are facing. But not only does He see us, He gives us hope, encouragement and His presence for whatever our day holds.

There’s something refreshing and strengthening when you realise you are seen so personally by God. Just as Hagar discovered, in the desert there is a well of refreshment to be found. Hagar named the spring of water Beer-Lahai-Roi, “the well of the Living One who sees me” and left feeling revived and encouraged, knowing that He was the God who saw her where she was.

She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me, for she said, “I have now seen the One who sees me.” (Genesis 16:13)

“For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.” 2 Chronicles 16:9
