Double Portion

It started as a casual decision- to pop in after dinner and stand at the back of the hall to see my son’s performance at a church event. Nothing dramatic, just another ordinary evening with the usual busyness of family life.

But as it turns out, “ordinary” doesn’t always stay that way.

We showed up and tried to slip into the back, only to find ourselves ushered to a table where a no to the food offered was not accepted. We hadn’t planned to stay long, but ended up blessed with unexpected hospitality.

Long story short? That night I ended up with two dinners. One offered generously at the event after my dinner at home. A double portion. Unexpected. Unplanned. Unmistakably funny. And maybe, just maybe, a little bit sacred.

How often in life do we show up with simple intentions and walk away with more than we bargained for? Not just in food, but in grace. Joy. Presence. Peace.

Sometimes, God’s blessings show up not with fanfare but in quiet, ordinary moments. Ones when we show up, pay attention, and allow ourselves to be present.

So here’s to the double portions in life:

The surprise joys.

The unplanned grace.

The dinners that remind you that God sees you and loves you!
