Turn up the volume

Turn up the Volume

We need to turn up the volume of the testimonies in our lives and in the lives of others.

Reminding ourselves of our testimonies stirs our faith. It reminds us that God has provided for us, answered our prayer, healed us. When we are feeling discouraged or up against a wall, remembering the testimonies strengthens us.

Listening to the testimony of others encourages us that God can do it again. There is power in the testimony. The Hebrew root for “testimony” means “do again”. Every record of what God has done in the Bible, for others is a promise that He can do it again for us. Because He is the same yesterday, today and forever. He is no respecter of persons.

God who promises to provide, who has provided for us, will provide again. Testimonies like this mean that we should and can look on our natural situations with a God perspective. We need to REMEMBER them, celebrate them.

“Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise His holy name. Praise the Lord, my soul; and forget not all His benefits.” (Psalm 103:1-2)

  1. my biggest struggle in my walk is testimony, if im completely honest.
I listen to the testimonies of others and I’m thrilled for them, I get excited by them but i struggle to believe that I can experience anything like that.

As for my testimony, I struggle to open my mouth for a number of reasons but mostly fear of man and that I do so many stupid things that I feel it destroys any credible witness I might have.

I know this is a wrong way of looking at it and God challenges me constantly about it.
But I read this post and I know the truth of it. We need to turn up the volume and I need to turn mine up quite a bit!

    1. Be encouraged – I think sometimes just even acknowledging that we’re not quite there to God helps, and saying help me believe Lord! I’ve so been in the same boat – almost have more faith for God to move for others than for me. But I found Bill Johnson’s teaching on testimonies so encouraging that it has changed for me. I started saying “hey God – I need that too” and it has started happening! Fear of man is hard – just remember its not about us being perfect – its about the grace of God which trumps that. Just want to encourage you – as I read your lovely honest blog I see someone who loves God and is witnessing thru the blog. 🙂 You are beautifully honest- so what is needed in Christian life!

      Blessings heaps to you! Philippa
(ps took a while to reply as wanted to give you a thoughtful answer and not something that just came out of my head, so had been praying 🙂 )

      1. wow, thank you so much Philippa. I really appreciate that you took time to answer carefully and pray. I’m interested to know, was Bill Johnson’s teaching on a podcast or a book? Is there a way I can access it? I’d love to listen to/read anything that helps me in this area.

Thank you for your kind words on my blog. I try to be honest, steering away from the standard “everything is rosy” but trying to be real so that I can encourage others.

I guess I struggle with perfectionism too and grace is such a powerful but frequently misunderstood aspect of God’s character and gifts.

        Thank you again so much.

      2. He has podcasts from the Bethel Church podcasting. Also can definitely recommend his book “When Heaven Invades Earth” amazing book!! All of them are actually! strengthen yourself in The Lord is good too.
