The Pied Piper of the 21st Century has to be Mr Whippy! His happy rendition of Greensleeves blares out across neighbourhoods to summon children to their doorsteps, eagerly beseeching parents for the opportunity to purchase one of the ice creams on offer. You hear the music in the distance, which progressively gets louder and louder as the familiar van then arrives on your street. A taste of summer and holidays. It’s music is a call, an invitation to a treat (albeit an expensive one!).
Church Bells do the same – they are a call to worship, an invitation to come together and worship God. Although our churches do not all have church bells tolling, the invitation is still there for a corporate encounter with God. There’s something to be said for joining together with other believers, for the corporate anointing that can come and for the breakthroughs that can happen as we gather together.
“Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song. ” (Psalm 95:1-2)
