Ponderances

Scratching the Surface

I remember as a child loving doing crayon etching. When you fill a piece of paper with a myriad of colours in no particular pattern and then colour over them with a black crayon. You then etch out patterns and pictures in the black letting the colour behind come through.

In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus says, “For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil.

When our life hits a bumpy road, when we face a challenging time, what do we reveal? When we’re waiting in a queue or waiting on an answer to prayer, when we’re stuck in traffic or feeling stuck in life, what colours come through? When we scratch through the surface of our lives, do joy and peace prevail? Does grace shine through? Does Christ?
