God’s got this!

I don’t know what the future holds. None of us do. And if I am honest I would say that my thoughts of the future can one day be optimistic in a let’s conquer the world kind of the way and the next day the very thought of it can scare the living daylights out of me. Even  picking up the daily paper with its reports on global warming or war or recession or even the pitfalls facing children in today’s world can be disquieting for our souls.

But despite our circumstances, despite our fears, despite our outlook even, God’s got us! As we take a leap of faith into the future, we can know that God is in control. Time and time again in the Bible we see God reassuring His people that He’s there for them and not to worry or be afraid. Take Joshua, faced with the death of Moses he unexpectedly became the leader of the Israelites. I can only imagine that he must have been nervous, scared even, when he had to step into Moses’ shoes. God though assured him,“… I will be with you as I was with Moses. I will not fail you or abandon you” (Joshua 1:5b).

Just as He promised Joshua, we too can step into the future with confidence and assurance that God will always be with us. That God who created the Universe, who created us, who knew us before we were born and is no stranger to the future is alongside us, always.

As someone once said “I don’t know what the future holds but I know who holds the future.” 

“Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.” (Isaiah 46:4)
