The art of juggling

No, this isn’t an article on how to juggling life’s commitments. Feel free to send any advice on that topic my way! It is on actual juggling. Juggling balls, plates, swords, whatever. It’s a talent that I don’t have….yet. I’d quite like to learn how to one day.

But if you have ever watched someone juggle. They are never looking at their hands or focusing on what they are juggling. They are focusing on the highest point of where they are throwing the next object. They are looking up. And those balls just flow, from one hand to the next. Mesmerizing in a way.

I googled a how to juggle you-tube clip, so maybe I will learn sooner rather than later. And sure enough, the instructor is looking up as she juggled. Rhythm, timing all comes down to that focus point. The point where the object is thrown to.

We need to be the same. Too often in life we get caught looking down, focusing too much on aspects of our lives. We need to look up. To make Jesus our focal point. He is the one we need to keep our eyes on. And when we do that, everything else falls into place. The rhythm, the stamina and the grace for what we are juggling flows.

Look up. Look to Jesus.

Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens:
    Who created all these?
He who brings out the starry host one by one
and calls forth each of them by name.
Because of his great power and mighty strength,
not one of them is missing.

Isaiah 40:26

  1. About 8 years ago – I tried to learn to juggle with tennis balls. For months I worked and worked to acquire this form of art. Finally, I realized I would never be a juggler and I accepted that. As for jugging things in our lives – we can always depend on God to help us – if we will but let him into our heart. I wish you luck on learning to juggle and I hope you become a master.
