I‘ve always been amazed at the ability of a compass, without need of power supply, to find North. Even when it’s been spun around and around, the needle always swings back to North. Even when it’s pitch black outside it holds its course to North.
I’m even more intrigued by the fact that a simple leaf placed in a pool of water will also show north. Thanks for Bear Grylls and “Man vs Wild” for that piece of info.
It made me think of our relationship with God. In the midst of confusing, hard circumstances, do our hearts always stay positioned towards God just like a compass? Or do we run the risk of letting life’s challenges throw us off course?
God’s voice must be louder than all the other voices in our lives. Just as the pull to North is the strongest for the compass over west, east and south, so the pull towards God needs to be the strongest for us.
Banning Liebscher of Jesus Culture said this “the objective is to have the affections of your heart pointed in His direction no matter what is going on.”
I don’t know about you, but I hate getting lost and I’m determined to ensure that my heart knows where “north” is.
